The White Box Truck, is a rolling contemporary art gallery. The inside of the The White Box Truck will be the pristine white cube that art history lovers have appreciated since Brian O’Doherty.  The project’s transportive qualities will update O’Doherty’s theory by allowing us to bring the experience out of its downtown home.

 

The White Box Truck project will bring BLOCKs mobile contemporary gallery to neighborhoods that have a low socio-economic standing.  The residents we hope to reach are those without traditional access to contemporary art galleries.  A low economic standing correlates with low museum visitation because visits require a larger portion of home income.  The White Box Truck hopes to reach neighborhoods that are geographically far from contemporary art spaces and neighborhoods that, for political reasons, do not receive arts education within public schools.  BLOCK will open a channel for people traditionally deemed outsider artists, due to an inability to receive artistic education and/or means to exhibit art in contemporary settings. The White Box Truck project will travel with contemporary art to break down barriers still present in the contemporary art world.
